BMW tires are not generic. Each model’s tire specification is matched to its suspension geometry, weight distribution, and performance characteristics. Servicing them correctly requires the right equipment for run-flat tires, the right software for TPMS recalibration, and an understanding of which BMW models have staggered wheel setups that change how rotation works entirely.
Many BMW models use run-flat tires as standard fitment. Identify them by RSC, RFT, or ROF markings on the sidewall. The reinforced sidewall lets you drive up to 50 miles at reduced speed after a puncture, which is why most run-flat-equipped BMWs do not include a spare tire.
That same reinforced sidewall is susceptible to damage during mounting and dismounting with conventional equipment. Improper handling can compromise structural integrity in ways that are not externally visible. We use BMW-compatible mounting equipment specifically designed for run-flat tires.
West Michigan winters run November through April. Cold temperatures affect summer-performance compound rubber before snow even arrives. Below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, summer tires stiffen noticeably on dry cold pavement, reducing grip in ways that are subtle but real.
BMW M cars and sport-trim models frequently come standard with summer-performance tires. A dedicated set of winter tires on a second set of wheels is the most impactful safety upgrade available for this market. Changeover takes 30 to 45 minutes including TPMS recalibration. BMW suspension geometry is precise, and small deviations produce uneven tire wear. We recommend an alignment check annually and after any significant road impact. Signs of a problem include pulling to one side on a flat road or one tire edge wearing faster than the other.
